Use Voice commands instead of Typing with your Android tablet PC

use voice commands on an android tabletThere are a few options where you can use voice commands or Actions to perform functions on your Android tablet PC.

To use voice commands, use the Voice Search function on your tablet to speak Voice Actions to perform many functions such as: text your contacts, get directions, send email, set the alarm, record a note to yourself, find music, open a website, search the web, and other common tasks.

To use the Voice Search function, touch the icon which looks like an old style microphone in the upper left corner of any home screen.

This tablet shows the various Voice Actions you can use, examples, and expected results:

Speak Followed by optional words Results Examples
To search the internet, just speak the words you want to search for Browser opens with the result of your search. “tablet pc”
Map of” followed by an address, name, type of business, or other location Maps opens with the result of a Maps search for the words you spoke. “Map of LAX, Los Angeles, California.”
Directions to” followed by an address, name, type of business, or other destination Maps opens with directions to your destination, or a list of possible matching destinations. “Directions to 1234 South 5th Street, Los Angeles, California.”
Navigate to” followed by an address, name,  type of business, or other destination Maps opens with spoken, turn-by-turn directions to your destination, or a list of possible matching destinations. “Navigate to Angels Flight, Los Angeles.”
To find a contact, speak the name of one of your contacts. If there is a single match, Contacts opens with details about your contact. Or if there is more than one match, you’re prompted to pick a contact. “Jim Stevens”
Go to” followed by a search string or URL Voice Search searches for a matching web site and if it finds one, opens its URL in Browser. Otherwise, it opens the result of a Google search in the Browser. “Go to Android Tablet PC Support dot com”
Send email “To” one or more contacts “Cc” one or more contacts “Bcc” one or more contacts “Subject” followed by a subject “Message” followed by the message you want to send (speak any punctuation you want to include) Gmail opens where you can complete the message before sending it. “Send email to Jim Stevens, subject, tablet pc, message, I bought a new tablet pc, period.”
Note to self” followed by the message you want to send to yourself Gmail opens where you can complete a message to yourself before sending it. “Note to self: buy an Android tablet PC”
Set alarm “Time” or “for” followed by a time, such as “10:45am” or “20 minutes from now” “Label” followed by a label for the alarm Clock opens, prompting you to confirm the details before setting the alarm. “Set alarm for 7:45pm, label, check email”
Listen to” followed by words for music you want to search for, such as the name of a song, artist, or album If you installed more than one app that uses the "Listen to" Voice Action, a dialog box will appear asking you to choose which app to use. Otherwise, as a default, YouTube will open with the results of your search. “Listen to: Black Eyed Peas”
