How to connect a Tablet PC to a Wi-Fi Network or Hotspot?
« on: December 07, 2011, 02:50:05 AM »
If your tablet PC has Wi-Fi connectivity, which most do, it comes with the Wi-Fi network already turned on.  If it is not turned on, or if you are not sure, follow these steps:
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings.

  • Check Wi-Fi to turn it on. The tablet scans for available Wi-Fi networks and displays the names of those it finds. Secured networks are indicated with a Lock icon. If the tablet finds a network that you connected to previously, it connects to it.

  • Touch a network to connect to it.
  • If the network says "Open" then you do not need a password to connect to it.
  • If the network says "wep" or something other than Open, then a password will be required to establish the connection.
Turn off Wi-Fi when you are not using it to extend the life of your battery.

This icon in the lower right corner of the Status bar shows that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and also shows the signal strength.

This icon on the Status bar is a Notification that an open Wi-Fi network is in range.

Network status icons turn blue if you have a Google Account added to your tablet and the tablet is connected to Google services, for syncing your Gmail, Calendar events, contacts, for backing up your settings, and so on. If you don't have a Google Account or if, for example, you're connected to a Wi-Fi network that is not connected to the Internet, the network icons are gray.
