How to connect an Android tablet to a wireless network and router?

If you want to connect your tablet to the internet, one method, which is also the best method, it to connect to a wireless network.

First, you need to turn on the wireless function on your tablet.  Depending on your tablet, there may be a simple icon on your information bar that you can touch to turn on the WiFi.  The icon usually looks something like this:

By touching the icon, it will turn on your WiFi radio, and by touching it again, it will turn it off.

If you do not have this type of icon on an information bar on your screen.  Then a more generic method to turn on your WiFi, which usually applies to most Android tablet is the following:

Go to your Settings app.
Under the heading "Wireless and network" you will see Wi-Fi
To the right of the Wi-Fi label, you will see a button or a slider bar that you can touch to activate the WiFi.

After you activate the WiFi on your tablet, you will see a list of WiFi networks within range of your tablet.
Touch the network you wish to connect to.
If a dialog screen opens asking for a code, then you'll need to get the code from the owner of the network and enter it on the dialog screen.
After you enter the code, touch the Connect button.

Many wireless networks will allow you to connect without a security code, but then will require that you enter a userid and password when you open a browser window the first time.
