Use Miracast to connect Android tablet to TV
« on: February 14, 2014, 05:22:44 PM »
Connect Android tablet to TV using Miracast

Miracast is a universal wireless connection that works much the same way as Bluetooth.  However, Miracast is designed to transmit video, where Bluetooth does not handle video data.

Many tablets come with Miracast software and hardware already built into the tablet. Miracast is natively supported from Android 4.2.X and up, although support can vary per device. Some manufacturers built Miracast into earlier 4.1.X devices. Check with your device's documentation or manufacturer website for more information about compatibility questions.

Many of the newer HD TVs also come with Miracast capability.  All you need to do is following the instructions on the TV and tablet to make a connection.

If your HD TV does not already have Miracast functionality, you can buy a external adapter that uses the HDMI connector on the TV.  Here is a link to an adapter that works with most TVs and tablets.  Be sure to review the compatibility information to assure your TV and tablet will work with this adapter. Please note that Miracast only works with high definition (HD) TVs that support HDMI video.  If your TV does not have a HDMI port on it, then it is probably not a HD TV.

With Miracast, you can connect to your TV wirelessly, and freely walk around the room with your tablet in hand.    This would be especially useful for presentations.
