3G modems and Android
« on: March 13, 2012, 10:02:10 AM »
Hmmm.... I have been through a few 3G modems since I entered the Android world. Now here is what I learned:

Not all 3G modems works with all Android Tablets. There is no general rule but I have found that the following modems are most likely to work:

HUAWEI E220
HUAWEI E1750
ZTE MF637U

Huavei E173 and E156 also works for some tablets.

To set up your 3G Modem is also a challenge. I found the best information here: newbielink:http://it-depot.net/pages/3G_Setup [nonactive]

I have found that the best way to connect all my devices is a MiFi hotspot newbielink:http://it-depot.net/pages/3G_WiFi_Router [nonactive]. This has a number of advantage:
  • you can share you connection between all your devices.
  • You just have to find one modem that works and it supports a lot of different modems
  • If you have an unlimited data plan why not share it with all your WiFi enabled devices and save money

3G and Android is not straight forward but don't give up. There are solutions out there.
