How to check for a software or OS update?
« on: June 05, 2012, 05:35:34 PM »
How to check to see if an OS or software update is available for an Android tablet PC?

Operating system (OS) updates, as well as other software updates, are being released by tablet manufacturers all the time.  It is important to note that when Google releases a new version of Android, the upgrade for your tablet will not come directly from Google, instead it will come from the manufacturer of your tablet PC.

The Android OS is an open source package.  This allows each manufacturer to add their own enhancements or tweaks for their own products.  This makes it so you must get any updates from your manufacturer if you want all the features and functions of your tablet to work properly.

Some manufacturers are slow to make the update ready since there is a development curve and testing process that must occur.  Android 4.0, for instance, has several new or changed APIs included with this update.  This is requiring each manufacturer to do a lot of changes to their unique features to work with the new APIs, plus a large amount of testing.

  • Touch Settings.
