How to Share your Tablet PC's Data Connection?
« on: December 07, 2011, 02:33:18 AM »
How to tether your Android tablet PC to your PC?
If your Android tablet PC has Wi-Fi and/or 3G-4G connectivity, which most do, then you can tether or share your tablet's data connection with a PC.  For instance, if your tablet is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi, then you can connect your PC to your tablet, then also access the internet from your PC via your tablet's already connected Wi-Fi connection.  The same is true if your tablet is connected using 3G/4G.

So if you are at the airport, and there is not a Wi-Fi hot spot available, then you can connect your tablet to the internet using your 3G/4G connection, then connect your tablet to your PC (hopefully a laptop since a desktop would be a little bulky to carry to the airport) and then access the internet on your PC via the 3G/4G connection.  Pretty cool, eh?  Don't expect lightening fast speed, but the connection should be fast enough to handle email and simple websites.

Here's how:
Using a USB connection:
  • Connect your tablet to your PC using the USB cable that came with your tablet. If you do not have one, you can purchase one here --> Tablet PC Store

  • Open the Settings application on your tablet

  • Touch Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable hotspot.

  • Check USB tethering. The tablet starts sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer, via USB connection. An ongoing notification icon is added to the System bar, to the left of the time.

  • Uncheck USB tethering to stop sharing your data connection. Or just disconnect the USB cable.
Using a Bluetooth connection:
  • Pair your tablet with your computer.
  • Configure your computer to obtain its network connection via Bluetooth. For more information, see your computerís documentation.
  • Open the Settings application on your tablet

  • Touch Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable hotspot.

  • Check Bluetooth tethering.
Share your tablet's data connection as a portable Wi-Fi Hotspot:
  • Open the Settings application on your tablet

  • Touch Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable hotspot.

  • Check Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
After a moment, the tablet starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID), so you can connect to it with up to 8 computers or other devices. An ongoing notification is added to the System bar, to the left of the time.

Uncheck Portable Wi-Fi hotspot to stop sharing your data connection via Wi-Fi.
