How to setup Proxy Server on Android Phones and Tablets?

How to setup Proxy server on Android tabletsThis post will explain how to setup proxy server on Android phones and tablets.  Some business connections require a proxy to be set up in order to connect to the network, or even to the internet.

The Android OS supports this option easily.  This is how to setup a proxy server on Android tablets:

The procedure to do this is slightly different depending on the version of Android you have.

Use this procedure if you have a newer version of Android:

  • Open Settings
  • Touch Connections
  • Touch Wi-Fi (if your Wi-Fi is not turned on, you should turn it on now)
  • Touch the Gear icon next to the Wi-Fi name, or if you don’t have a gear icon, long press (touch and hold) the Wi-Fi setting you want to change
  • Touch on Advanced
  • Touch on Proxy and change to Manual
  • Enter the settings for your network – if you are unsure what settings to use, contact your network administrator

If you are using Android 4.0 or 5.0, then use this procedure:

  • Open Settings
  • Under the Wireless & networks heading on the left, Touch Wi-Fi
  • Find the network you wish to connect to and long press it (touch and hold).
  • Touch Modify Network
  • Touch the Show Advanced Settings check box in the lower left corner of the dialog box.  If the Show Advanced Settings option is not displayed, you may need to go back a step and Touch Forget Network, and then, when you reset up the network, you will see the Show Advanced Settings option
  • Touch the Proxy Settings drop down and change to Manual
  • Enter the settings for your network – if you are unsure what settings to use, contact your network administrator.

If you have Android 3.x, use this procedure:

  • Open Settings
  • Touch Wireless & networks on the left
  • Touch Wi-Fi settings
  • Find the network you wish to connect to and long press it (touch and hold).
  • Touch Modify Network
  • Touch the Proxy Settings drop down and change to Manual
  • Enter the settings for your network – if you are unsure what settings to use, contact your network administrator.

set a static IP in android

Static IP address on Android phones and tablets

Having a static IP address on Android phones and tablets can be useful if you are connecting to the device, and you always want to reference the same IP address. Normally, the IP address is dynamic and can change each time you connect to the network.

You can change the settings yourself to your custom specifications, or you can download an app from Google Playstore called “WiFi Static” which will help you manage the static and dynamic IP settings on your Android device.
