How to change to Dark Mode Display on Android phones and tablets?
Why would you want to change your Android phone or tablet to use Dark Mode? The main reason is to save on eye strain from looking at a brightly lit screen. With a dark screen, you don’t have the backlit screen as a bright white light shinning in your eyes.
An alternate reason is that the consequence of changing from a light screen to a dark screen is that the phone doesn’t need to generate so much white light – thus, saving a bit on battery life. And, perhaps, there may be a savings on the life of your LED/LCD screen since it isn’t generating so much light.
How do you make the change?
First, your Android phone or tablet must be running Android version 10 or higher. Take a look at this post to see what Android version you’re running.
If you have a Samsung phone, there are a couple of very easy methods to make the change:
First and easiest method:
- Swipe down on the front screen of your Samsung Android phone or tablet to open the quick menu.
- You may need to swipe a second time to see all the icons.
- Find the Dark Mode icon and touch it.
Second method:

- Touch on Dark Mode
If you don’t have a Samsung Android phone, then there are a few more steps:
